Senate Approves Bill to Disclose Jeffrey Epstein Documents

The Senate on this Tuesday passed without delay to legislation that will require the publication of investigative files associated with the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a overwhelming vote in the House of Representatives and a change of position by the president and his GOP allies. The White House relented after months of trying to block the bipartisan effort involving a case that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Expedited Approval in Congress

Senators proceeded by consensus, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a recorded vote, accelerating the process. Just before, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a 427-1 tally.

“The American people have been patient long enough. Those affected have waited long enough,” the Senate Democratic leader declared in a floor speech on Tuesday, before asking the Senate to adopt it by consent. “Reveal the truth. Ensure full disclosure.”

Next Steps

The bill next heads to Donald Trump for his approval. Trump indicated on Monday that he would sign the measure.

Even though Trump has for an extended period rejected the uproar over the authorities' approach of the Epstein case as a “Democrat hoax”, he voiced approval for the House bill over the past few days, and stated he would approve it if it comes to him.

Reaction

Democrats, along with those affected and their advocates who were present in a viewing area, cheered after the bill was passed. Lone dissent came from a Louisiana Republican, who expressed concern he feared the measure would reveal specific data of individuals involved, potential suspects and others implicated in the investigation.
