From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the urban setting.
Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of adventurers who will split off from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
The antagonist then settled his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each member has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could enable the team reach areas they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which players will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
